EMDR Memory and Information Processing

EMDR therapy is a robust phased approach to treating trauma and relieving psychological stress by reconnecting in a safe and measured way to images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with events that may have overwhelmed our system in the past.

The beauty of EMDR is the way it enables the brain’s natural healing capacity to move toward adaptive resolution.  Symptoms arise when traumatic, neglectful and challenging experiences occur without the resources necessary to safely process or digest what has happened.

Healing can be supported when we stimulate the brain with some form of bilateral stimulation while reawakening the memory network in a carefully titrated way within the context of the safe environment we create together.
